  • WWII Marine veteran Frank S. Wright will turn 100 on July 5 and he hopes to receive 100,000 postcards or birthday cards—with only 34 cards received so far—to mark his milestone day.   • On Tuesday, district accounting manager Sofima Ibarra testified that trustees at Stockton Unified face no penalties for submitting expense receipts late if they later secure superintendent approval—this policy is a key point in the case against board member AngelAnn Flores, who is accused of embezzlement and filing a false insurance claim, while the trial will resume at 9:30 a.m. today in Department 6D.  Stocktonia
  • A routine traffic stop in Lathrop led police to arrest one person after seizing 1,815 pounds of illegal fireworks and 72 homemade explosives—fire and explosive experts were called as a precaution ahead of the Fourth of July.  Stocktonia
  • Stockton resident Ammaad Akhtar, 33, was arrested for allegedly supporting ISIS by providing cash and materials—on June 23 he met with an undercover associate and supplied loaded guns, extra magazines, clothing, binoculars and $400 in cash while pledging his loyalty.  Stocktonia

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee demanded an investigation into alleged misuse of funds intended for DEI programs after claiming that $40,000 was diverted to pay a consultant fee for Lathrop’s city manager—Councilmember Mario Enriquez backed his call for transparency while Mayor Christina Fugazi said no funds were specifically set aside for DEI and that the issue would be discussed further at Tuesday’s council meeting.  KCRA
