ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On April 16, California officials announced that an invasive Asian mussel species was found in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta which may harm plants, fish, and water flow. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials in San Joaquin County held a groundbreaking ceremony Friday to start the Lower San Joaquin River Project—a billion-dollar plan to reduce flood risk for about 264,000 residents. The first phase is expected to finish by the end of 2026, and later work will help lower flood insurance costs for 100,000 homes as the project is set to complete in 2039. KCRA
- ➤ The aging levees in the Delta that protect Stockton and nearby towns are at risk because state and federal funds have not kept up—local groups must borrow money for repairs that could cost at least $3 billion by 2050. Farmers and officials warn that if funding does not improve soon, debt and delays in fixing the levees will leave homes, farms and water supplies in danger. Stocktonia
