Good morning, Stockton.

Yesterday, dozens gathered at the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Stockton to mourn Pope Francis with prayers and a special mass; parishioners remembered his service (12 years) as pope and noted his bold leadership helped renew the church’s spirit.

The diocese thanked him for his faithful leadership and pledged to keep his legacy alive.

On Sunday, Stockton police arrested a 17-year-old in north Stockton over the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Andrew Majewski, who was shot Saturday afternoon in the Valley Oak District and booked into San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall on homicide charges.

A Stockton man suspected of fatally shooting his wife at a party on B Street was arrested Sunday morning in San Diego County — officers stopped a red Ford Explorer tied to him as he was believed to be heading toward Mexico.

Antonio Cuellar was sentenced to 25 years to life for the 2019 murder of his 18-year-old girlfriend Andrea Cervantes Alejandre in Tracy—he fled to Mexico before being arrested in late 2023 and extradited in 2024.

San Joaquin Valley residents, including many in Stockton, already facing Medicaid changes, may see their CalFresh benefits drop by about 20%—a move part of a proposed $230 billion federal cut to SNAP that could affect up to 1.3 million households.

These changes may also hurt local stores and lead to job losses.
