Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 23rd of April.
Good morning, Stockton.
Stockton’s Catholic community and local officials mourned Pope Francis, who died Easter Monday at 7:35 a.m. at age 88 from a stroke and irreversible heart failure at Casa Santa Marta.
Church services at the Cathedral of the Annunciation and public tributes honored his legacy—leaders described him as a symbol of compassion and service.
Stockton City Council unanimously voted on April 15 to censure District 5 councilmember—Brando Villapudua—for making an obscene gesture during a January meeting.
He apologized to his constituents but said the censure will not improve the city.
City Council questioned why three broken hydrants and a fourth that failed later were in use during a large three-alarm fire at a recycling plant earlier this month.
City staff will investigate the problem and explore fixes—like stronger hydrants and sensors—to better inform the fire department in future emergencies.
