Good morning, Stockton.

A Macy's asset protection employee (32-year-old) in Stockton was shot at 12:37 p.m. while trying to stop a shoplifting incident at the Sherwood Place store and was treated at a local hospital for a non-life-threatening leg wound; police are searching for two white men who fled the scene (no arrests have been made).

Antonio Flores-Cuellar was sentenced to 25 years to life after pleading no contest for the premeditated murder of 18-year-old Andrea Cervantes Alejandre—he fled to Mexico after the 2019 killing but was extradited to face trial in San Joaquin County in 2024.

At Monday's hearing in San Joaquin County Superior Court, a prosecutor asked the judge to order defendant Wesley Brownlee to cooperate with a competency examination after he refused to speak during a previous session—Brownlee remains in jail without bail and his next hearing is set for 9 a.m. on June 9 in Department 9B.

On April 22, law enforcement agencies stopped a semi-truck on Koster Road in Tracy loaded with 416 pounds of cocaine after tracking it from the Mexican border—one suspect was arrested while another was captured after barricading in an attic with support from a SWAT team and K9 units.

Manteca Police Department officers shot a man after his white van rammed three police cars in the parking lot of an In-N-Out Burger on Wednesday, and he was taken to a local hospital as investigators follow San Joaquin County protocols—no officers were injured.

During a lengthy Tuesday night meeting, the Stockton City Council postponed a public hearing on proposed military-grade police equipment because a policy stops new business after 11 p.m. The council will revisit the issue on May 13 — a move that comes as Assembly Bill 481 requires transparency in police equipment acquisitions.
