Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 6th of May.
Good morning, Stockton.
📰 Economy
California peach growers will receive up to $9 million in USDA aid after Del Monte’s Modesto cannery closed, lawmakers said.
The funding—covering the removal of roughly 420,000 trees—will help farms switch to new crops before the 2026 harvest season.
🏛️ Government
Facing overcrowding at local shelters, county officials are considering a spay-and-neuter mandate for dogs and cats picked up or adopted at the shelter.
Supervisor Steven Ding expects to return the proposal to the board within weeks to cut costs (and ease overpopulation).

Three local athletes from Stockton and Manteca signed NFL contracts after the draft; Jonah Coleman joined the Broncos plus Zelmar Vedder and Jacob de Jesus signed with the Chiefs.
