  • RTD unveiled a bus wrap honoring Stockton native and former NASA astronaut José M. Hernández to promote his Reaching for the Stars Foundation—encouraging STEM education and local pride—and to inspire Stockton youth. The bus will travel across the system for at least two years so residents can see his message around town.  The Stockton Record
  • Stockton Metropolitan Airport held its first Aviation Open House on May 11 where visitors explored vintage propeller planes, military helicopters, and interactive exhibits while speaking with crew members—officials hope the event becomes an annual chance for locals to learn about aviation careers.  Stocktonia

  • The CHP said a driver was arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Stockton—details are pending.  KCRA
  • A driver intentionally crashed into a Stockton police vehicle on Monday night— injuring an officer— according to officials.  KCRA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • San Joaquin County’s Employment and Economic Development Department has been awarded a $6 million grant to help farmworkers secure jobs during farming off-seasons. The program offers personalized vocational training and case managers to guide workers into high-demand roles — including CDL, plumbing, and HVAC—in recruitment events held in Stockton, Lodi, Manteca, and Tracy.  KCRA
  • Last summer’s heat and heavy winds hurt pollination, so San Joaquin County growers expect the cherry crop starting this month to be about half of a banner year’s total—prices are higher for those with a decent harvest. Growers like James Chinchiolo of Lodi Blooms plan to invite loyal customers to pick cherries beginning May 16.  Stocktonia

HEALTH NEWS

  • San Joaquin County secured a $137 million grant from the California Department of Health Care Services to advance the Be Well Campus— a new behavioral health and substance use treatment facility to be built on 23 acres near San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp. County officials said the grant adds to a larger $261.8 million budget approval, with construction set to begin in late September after environmental reviews and substantial completion expected by July 2027.  Stocktonia
