  • Stocktonia News earned five awards at the CNPA excellence in journalism awards gala on May 17 at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City Hotel — the nonprofit news site was recognized for local government coverage, community engagement, sustainability, and innovative technology, with veteran journalist Michael Fitzgerald taking first place for a feature story on the closing of Yasoo Yani. CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested Sunday night in Stockton after he drove a stolen car that rammed a police vehicle—officials said.  KCRA
  • Two new homes in a Mountain House development (North Girardi Drive and West Calabria Drive) were significantly damaged at 6:30 a.m. on May 14 after a May 13 report said three possible juvenile males knocked over traffic cones, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said.  Stocktonia
  • A 60-year-old Stockton street vendor named Ignacio Garcia was fatally shot last week near California and Third streets during a robbery when two masked men attacked his mobile cart — police have not yet arrested any suspects.  KCRA
  • On Sunday afternoon, a driver who may have been on opioids struck five men on west Sonora Street—he was found unconscious, revived with Narcan, and the injured pedestrians ranging in age from 40 to 67 were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Stocktonia

  • Local artist Asia Lamela won the Anh Phoong billboard art contest with her Rosie the Riveter-inspired design that earned a $5,000 prize and now shines high above Stockton.
