CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Stockton police—working with California tax agents—seized over $55,000 in flavored tobacco, an illegal gambling machine, and a gun from smoke shops operating without proper licenses as part of an ongoing crackdown on violations of state and local tobacco laws. Stocktonia
- ➤ Two men — ages 19 and 27 — were fatally shot on Memorial Day on south San Joaquin Street, prompting SWAT to search the building while police also reported a separate shooting death over the long holiday weekend. Stocktonia
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ San Joaquin County Behavioral Services received a $137 million state grant for a new Be Well campus near San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp as part of a $3.3 billion Proposition 1 funding plan that will expand behavioral health services statewide. The integrated facility, which will offer 172 beds and various treatment options—construction is set to begin in September pending environmental review and permits—is scheduled to complete its first phase by July.
