  • Northern California counties will allow fireworks on Independence Day if the devices have a Safe and Sane seal from the State Fire Marshall—Stockton has 30 booths managed by local groups like KYCC Radio Network and First Baptist Church of Stockton while nearby areas in El Dorado and Placer counties face restrictions.   • The felony trial of SUSD board member AngelAnn Flores was delayed Tuesday when two jurors became ill, and the case—where she faces embezzlement, misuse of a district-issued credit card, and filing a false insurance claim—resumed Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in courtroom 6D.  Stocktonia

ECONOMY NEWS

  • RentCafe published its annual report on June 26 that found Stockton among the worst places for renters. The study rated 150 cities using 20 indicators—like apartment quality and local economy—and placed Stockton with five other California cities as low on housing and quality of life.  The Stockton Record
  • California's excise gas tax increased by 1.6 cents per gallon on July 1 as Governor Newsom's office worked to correct false claims about gas price spikes—experts expect the Low Carbon Fuel Standard changes to result in only an 8 to 9 cent per gallon rise.  The Stockton Record
