CRIME NEWS

  • At about 7:58 a.m. on Thursday, Stockton police reported that a former CHP officer from Lodi is suspected of a murder-suicide after he shot a man at a CrossFit gym on West Eight Mile Road—he is also suspected of killing his wife in Garden Grove, with the Stockton man in critical condition.  The Stockton Record
  • Sheriff Patrick Withrow said eight suspects were arrested after a June 19 gang-related kidnapping and torture in Manteca—with help from the Stockton and Manteca police departments, the Stanislaus County SWAT team and the FBI—with six suspects arraigned last Thursday and scheduled to return to court next Thursday on felony charges including kidnapping and assault.  Stocktonia
  • A Stockton police sergeant and eight officers in face shields carrying batons escorted vehicles from the city’s ICE facility Thursday night—triggered by a Sacramento immigration operation that led protesters to gather near 603 San Juan Ave—and cleared the scene by 7:29 p.m.  The Stockton Record
  • Eight people were arrested in San Joaquin County on July 11 on charges including kidnapping, torture, extortion, intimidation and gun offenses as part of the FBI's Summer Heat initiative—local SWAT teams from Stockton, Manteca and Stanislaus County executed search warrants after a June 19 incident in Manteca.  KCRA

  • Don Bott—a longtime teacher at Stockton Unified School District—has published 40 Years, 40 Stories, a book that shares lessons from his forty-year career. The book gives new teachers advice and real stories to help change how people view teaching in Stockton.  The Stockton Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Coast Guard began dismantling the historic 140-foot minesweeper Chaleur with a giant crane in Little Potato Slough west of Stockton. Over the next four weeks & after cutting the vessel into five pieces, officials will remove the boat and marina remnants to protect water quality and wildlife.  KCRA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stockton City Council approved an $8.2 million bill to cover the full cost of removing the derelict cruise ship Aurora that sank near Eight Mile Road in May 2024. The cleanup—performed by Lind Marine and partners—ensured safe water for nearly 200,000 residents while investigations into the ship’s ownership continue.  Stocktonia
