COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Yosemite Street Village (in Stockton) was closed as about 600 community members and local dignitaries gathered to celebrate National Night Out, an event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood safety. The event featured live jazz, food vendors, and a library outreach bus (helping spark early interest in local services) while officials like Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom and Sen. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash shut down a part of Highway 26 (between Jack Tone and Duncan roads) near North Jack Tone Road at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday in San Joaquin County, and Caltrans said the road was closed for about two hours while details on injuries and vehicle involvement remain unclear.  KCRA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, Stockton faces a heat wave that will last through Monday—temperatures are expected to climb above 100 degrees for four days—as local meteorologists issue Impact Days and advise residents to plan outdoor activities before the hottest hours from 2 to 6 p.m.  KCRA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • California legislators must finish setting up a special election for redistricting in five days after the August 22 deadline—Governor Newsom plans a state vote on November 4 so voters can decide on new congressional maps once the legislators return on August 18.  KCRA
  • Stockton vice mayor Jason Lee is urging an independent investigation into allegations of a falsified city budget and improper hiring linked to a new public relations division. Interim City Manager Steve Colangelo has launched an internal probe into a $50,000 payment from the Risk Mitigation Fund used for a comedy event at Adventist Health Arena — raising concerns about proper use of city funds.  The Stockton Record
