  • Stockton has struggled to book top acts as promoter deals for events featuring Jerry Seinfeld, Lil Wayne & Wild 'N Out Live fell short due to low ticket sales and contract issues. City officials used a $600,000 Risk Mitigation Fund to cover losses and plan to improve future bookings.  Stocktonia

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A recent study by researchers from the University of California Riverside found that sinking ground has lowered home values in the Central Valley by up to 5.8%, costing homeowners nearly $1.87 billion. The slow sinking of the land, triggered by excessive groundwater pumping and worsened by drought and climate change — a serious economic issue for families — calls for careful review by local officials.  The Stockton Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ronald E. McNair High School in Stockton reopened to students and teachers Monday after a week-long flooding closure—caused by a burst water line from a corroded pipe—and repairs continue in one taped-off campus area; an industrial hygienist certified the building safe for return.  KCRA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Coast Guard and contractors finished a 25-day demolition when they lifted the last piece of the HMCS Chaleur from Little Potato Slough on Thursday morning—this removed over 400 tons of oil-saturated hull and hazardous waste from a vessel that had threatened Stockton's water supply and farmland.
