ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters from Tracy, Lathrop, Manteca, Stockton and the Defense Logistics Agency battled a four alarm vegetation fire in the 31000 block of South Tracy Boulevard on Thursday night as barns, stables and livestock enclosures caught fire with livestock blocking roadways—high winds fanned the flames.  KCRA

CRIME NEWS

  • Stockton police wrote 51 tickets and made arrests at 78 smoke shops—citing sales to minors and operating without a license—to address City Council concerns that the shops offer products too attractive to kids.  Stocktonia

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • California officials reported that invasive mute swans have rapidly increased in wetlands near Grizzly Island Wildlife Area and threaten native species in the Delta — a measure that passed the Assembly is now pending in the Senate to let hunters and landowners reduce their numbers. The law aims to manage the growing population before the damage to local habitats worsens.  Stocktonia

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Gavin Newsom said on August 14 that California will hold a special vote on November 4 so voters can decide on a redistricting plan; proposed maps may drop today. He said the plan is a temporary fix to counter GOP moves—critics say it is a power grab.  The Stockton Record

  • California recorded over 5,500 Valley Fever cases in the first half of 2025—cases are growing beyond the Central Valley and Central Coast. The California Department of Public Health advises residents to be cautious this August's Valley Fever Awareness Month and to see a doctor if symptoms like cough, fever, or trouble breathing last for more than 7 to 10 days.  The Stockton Record
