Good morning, Stockton. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 18th of August.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers, city workers and councilmember Michael Blower worked together on Saturday, Aug. 16 to restore the horseshoe pit at Grupe Park as part of the Stockton Beautification Project (a Clean City Initiative started in 2021 to reduce trash and illegal dumping). ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rodent expert Roger Baldwin said that rats have invaded California almond orchards since last fall, affecting over 100,000 acres in San Joaquin Valley and causing between $109 million and $311 million in damage—hitting the $4.7 billion industry hard. Farmers struggle to control the pests as state pesticide rules and shifting weather conditions let them thrive, and experts worry that losses may continue if lasting solutions are not found.  The Stockton Record
