ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Highway 108 was partly closed in Riverbank on August 20 due to a fast-moving grass fire near Adams Gravel Plant Road by the Stanislaus River—crews mopped up the flames while three structures were damaged and one was destroyed over 10 to 15 acres.  KCRA

CRIME NEWS

  • Stockton trucker Harjinder Singh faces deportation after a fatal crash on Aug. 12 in Florida killed three people and he waived extradition to return for charges of vehicular homicide—federal officials note the case has raised issues with driver licensing practices.  The Stockton Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of the Pacific opened Manor Hall this week — a 101-year-old brick dorm on the Stockton campus once unoccupied since 2013 that now houses veterans and active-duty military in 11 suites for up to 33 students.
