Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 21st of August.
Good morning, Stockton.
🏘️ Community
The San Joaquin Pride Center in Stockton has launched a fundraiser to raise $200,000 because its funding ended early and new state money is delayed (it can operate only until October and mental health counseling may stop if more funds are not secured).
Stockton hosts a busy weekend with events from August 20 to 23, including live music at the Haggin Museum on August 20, free women’s soccer at Knoles Field, SummerFest at Lincoln Center today, & cultural celebrations along Miracle Mile and Tap That Ash Lounge until August 23.
🏛️ Government
Construction crews are rebuilding a one-mile levee along Tenmile Slough to protect Brookside homes amid a strong El Niño warning.
The project will finish by October as part of Stockton’s plan to upgrade 24 miles of levees – a measure to strengthen aging barriers.
