Andrew Watson was convicted of second-degree murder and firearm enhancements for fatally shooting a 37-year-old Amazon truck driver on June 15, 2023, on a freeway in Lathrop—his sentencing is set for 8:30 a.m. on Sept.
23 in Stockton Superior Court.
🎓 Education
On August 28th, Congressman Josh Harder announced new bipartisan legislation to expand food assistance for students at San Joaquin Delta College after SNAP cuts affected 22,000 people in the county.
He visited the college food pantry, where students said the cuts hurt food access & they hope the law will automatically make all community college students eligible for help.

On Tuesday night, Stockton City Council decided to let its three-member Audit Committee led by Vice Mayor Jason Lee investigate the alleged diversion of DEI funds used to pay a consultant for interim City Manager Steve Colangelo.
Some councilmembers expressed concern that using internal investigators might lead to bias—Mayor Christina Fugazi and Councilmember Brando Villapudua noted potential conflicts of interest.
San Joaquin County celebrated the first anniversary of the STAART app with a half-day conference held at the Hilton yesterday—this app lets residents and business owners send real-time evidence of crimes to law enforcement.
Key speakers like Stockton Police Chief Stanley McFadden and District Attorney Ron Freitas discussed strategies to fight retail theft and outlined plans to improve the app in its second year.
