  • Speakeasy Hair Co.—known for its drinks and deluxe packages—has expanded its Stockton shop from Miracle Mile to East Hamer Lane to meet growing demand from locals and out-of-towners. The new location will host a UFC watch party today at 5 p.m. to celebrate its grand opening.  KCRA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rain fell across Stockton on Oct. 2, bringing more rain than usual as students at the University of the Pacific carried umbrellas and the Weberstown Farmer’s Market saw fewer visitors.  Stocktonia

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stockton’s new Office of Public Transparency, Information and Communication (OPTIC) was created in July from existing staff after a grand jury report pushed for more openness, and concerns arose over the hiring process and budget use. Councilmembers continue to question its benefits and timeline as the office defends its focus on accessibility audits and plans public outreach midyear next year — prompting a debate on the city’s transparency efforts.  Stocktonia
  • The Stockton Unified School District Board of Trustees has scheduled a special meeting at 9:00 a.m. today at the Arthur Coleman Jr. Administration Complex to decide how to fill the Area 2 seat left vacant after former Trustee AngelAnn Flores was removed following her felony conviction. Board members will review legal presentations — and they must decide by November 21 whether to appoint a provisional replacement or hold a special election.  The Stockton Record
