COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On October 21st, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Heather Bonnett used her OB kit and first aid training to help a mother deliver a baby boy on Highway 99 in Stockton and then took them to the hospital where staff honored her with a Daisy Award pin—given to those who show extra care.  KCRA
  • After years without a rodeo, the Clements Stampede returned this past weekend in Clements with bull riding, mutton busting and a concert (2,800 tickets were sold), drawing a large local crowd. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law last week that requires phonics-based reading lessons in elementary and middle schools and provides training for principals and reading specialists (updating textbooks and flash cards) as part of broader literacy reforms including dyslexia screening and transitional kindergarten. Some school districts may opt out if they choose, and experts hope the changes will raise student reading scores.  Stocktonia
