Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 7th of November.
Good morning, Stockton.
University of the Pacific broke ground Thursday on a new 15,682 square foot student-athlete and sports medicine center at its Stockton campus near the Janssen-Lagorio Performance Center, a project funded entirely by private donations (including a contribution from the Eberhart family to name the rehab area after Chris Pond). The center will support nearly 400 Division I athletes across 19 sports, expand current facilities, and is expected to open by September 2026.
San Joaquin County approved $1.5 million for the Gospel Center Rescue Mission’s new facility after its private financing fell through—this funding will help add 27 beds for recuperative care and 83 beds for addiction treatment to serve up to 110 residents, and earlier support of $2 million in 2021 secured a crucial $2 million Federal Home Loan Bank grant. Supervisors praised the mission's work as cost-effective and urged local cities to share the financial burden.
